The Xbox One X is a console that is solid, heavy, compact and plays quietly during game play. In solid black, it is quite inconspicuous for those that love the look of basic equipment.
For those unfamiliar with the specifications of the console, they are:
- 12 gigs of DDR RAM
- 8-core CPU, 2.3 GHz
- AMD GPU, running 1172 MHz
- 4K UHD Blu-ray player
- 1 TB hard drive size
One thing that might be surprising is how fast the hard drive space will be taken up. This is primarily because the 4K textures are specific and the games are enormous in size. There are likely to be many external hard drives bought because of this.
Although the games look great on 1090p, in order to get the maximum experience, you should certainly try it out on a 4K television set. The ultra HD features will really pop on these.
For games such as Assassin’s Creed: Origins, players will have the option to tweak HDR levels. Gears of War 4 will offer the option to choose either “Visuals” or “Performance” as far as enhancements go. The latter has a priority set for frame rate, while the former focuses on all the graphic enhancements to be seen. Other games that tout enhanced features do not offer the graphics options, but are automatically enhanced with little to no indication in menu areas.
It is interesting to find this kind of flexibility in a game console, as it mimics the PC experience quite a bit, as does user experience. In fact, in some cases, it is even more user-friendly than the PC has been. As for frame rate and resolution, there is quite a difference between your experience on the Xbox One versus the Xbox One X. Not only is it prettier, but the HDR seems to make everything on the screen come alive.
You cannot, of course, expect this console to match the outstanding performance of the high end, and very expensive, gaming PC’s, but there is certainly a degree of power in the console. Some games will run at the 60 fps with graphic enhancements in 4K HDR, and some won’t.
It’s likely that the Xbox One X will only be truly embraced by the hardcore gaming type, as it was with the PS4 Pro. The Xbox One S is expected to outsell the X, which seems reasonable. However, the Xbox One X looks to have a firm hold on helping to keep Microsoft in the running in years to come.
